When it comes to studying, there are several things we can learn from Kobe.
1. Desire to win.
Kobe loved to win and hated to lose. Known as the Black Mamba, his desire to win was obvious to all who played with him, and it propelled the Lakers to win 5 NBA championships. He wasn’t playing just to earn a paycheck. He was out there to win every game. His desire to win was so intense that it even became an annoyance to some of his teammates at times.
When it comes to your classes, how bad do you want to win? Do you go to class simply out of obligation or do you go with the mission of learning as much as you can? Are you trying to get by with the least amount of work and effort or are you doing whatever it takes to dominate your classes?
2. Strong work ethic.
Kobe worked harder than everyone else. He may have been born with a large dose of basketball talent, but he knew that to be his best, he had to put in the time and the practice…again and again and again. His work ethic was legendary.
Do you have the discipline to do whatever it takes to get the job done correctly? Do you go to class, pay attention, and take great notes? Do you study those notes soon after class, as well as the notes from your other classes on a daily basis? Do you keep up with your reading? Do you complete all your homework assignments on time and work on your upcoming projects each day? It’s the little things done every day that pay the big dividends.
3. Play through the pain.
Because Kobe loved to win, he was notorious for playing in basketball games despite his injuries. Whether it be a sprained shoulder, fractured finger, sprained ankle, or a torn Achilles’ tendon, Kobe played anyway. While many others would opt to sit out until completely healed, Kobe played through the pain.
Are you willing to put in the work when it hurts? When distractions come your way are you willing to say “No” until the work is done? On those nights when you are extremely tired and would like to go to bed, do you fight through the fatigue to get your studying done or do you wimp out and put it off until tomorrow?
You can do this! It will never be easy, but may you all have a little bit of Kobe in you to dominate your classes.
